1. What led you to start GoalGetter consultancy?

Mostly it was my own personal development journey. At some point just before and just after I graduated, I felt like I was recycling resolutions year in and year out but not making progress. I wanted to be better and do more but never then got around to it. Yet I knew people my age who were always getting things done in different areas of their life. You know those people who are killing it at school or work but still find time to work out, read many books, spend time with their families and friends and are actively winning all round? Those are the people I call Goal Getters- and I decided I wanted that life too. So I embarked on the journey to become more efficient and deliberate in my growth. I joined and actively served and learnt in organisations like JCI and Toastmasters, I established a habit of reading, watching videos and listening to audios on personal development, I got mentors and applied and attended a lot of leadership development programs and I guess with time it paid off as I started to achieve significant progress in different areas of my life. The GoalGetter planner is a compilation of the tools and knowledge I learnt from other people and others that I developed myself. The GoalGetter planner is a daily organiser with tools to help individuals and teams to set SMART annual goals, develop action plans to achieve these goals and quarterly review progress to ensure they stay on track. I got quite the favourable response to the Planner as some of the people that I thought were doing very well, are the ones who really got excited about and bought the planner. In a bid to connect all these amazing people and ensure that we could collaborate, network and inspire each other to do even more we created the GoalGetter tribe. The GoalGetter tribe is a community of young professionals, entrepreneurs and students who meet on a regular basis to keep each other accountable towards our individual goals as well as learn from some successful more established people. This year we are particularly excited as we have also introduced monthly vision board parties. I was also aware that people who are struggling in their personal lives tend to be no different at work – businesses equally needed their people to be trained in personal efficiency and team performance. So GoalGetter Consultancy provides training, coaching and consulting to help individuals improve efficiency and teams to become more high performing and so ultimately meet business bottom lines and increase profitability.

2. What is it that you do that makes you outstanding in service and leadership?

I plug in and I am committed to creating results.

I am particular about the organisations I work for, join or even partner. It has to be a cause I believe in and I am sold out about. This ensures that once I get on board, I fully understand the impact that can be created by the work we do and the possibilities that the right leadership can create. So when I get into an organisation I am fully committed and want to serve to the best of my abilities to ensure that we achieve the mission and more important the members grow.

I also tend to be very goal oriented so once a result is established I usually go all out to ensure we achieve bottom line. I have learnt that there are two types of people – those who will move every mountain to achieve results and those who will find every excuse under the sun not to do things. I am typically the former and this can cause tensions with the former group but hey such is life. I used to struggle with wanting to get everyone excited and buy in and committed but the year that I was the president of my JCI chapter, my mentor taught me to find the 20% in the group who create 80% of the results then get those on board and get going. The rest will jump on board once the train is moving so that was also a profound lesson for me. I am however still learning more and more about leadership as I go.

3. How important are vision and goals in a young person’s life, career or business?

We live in times where young people have so many things influencing their choices and decisions and without personal vision and goals any bus goes! No young person can afford that. Goals and visions are critical to keep you on track. The clearer the goal, the better. Young people need to learn how to break down their dreams or wishes into clear compelling goals on what exactly they want to achieve, why they want to achieve it and how it would benefit them to achieve it. The next stage is to develop a detailed action plan that identifies the process, the price and the people it will take you to achieve these goals. This process helps you to identify what you will have to do to achieve your goals but it also helps you identify the people who can help you as well. Goals and a vision help you know what to say yes to, what to turn down and how much work you have to put in.

4. How important is a community or network of people for a young person.

I am deeply passionate about the power of people in any person’s journey hence the establishment of the GoalGetter tribe. Young people need to deliberately and relentlessly chase people who can teach them how to do better in their lives.

I am the poster child of the saying: If I have seen further than others it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants. I have been greatly mentored by many people who have walked the path I am trying to walk – through personal relationships but also through books and following the people I admire online, reading their posts and watching their videos. I am always chasing ideas and goals that are usually a bit ridiculous given my background or current capacity but I thrive on knowing that there are people who have walked that path before who can guide me so I am always meeting accomplished people and asking them for their advice and that’s a big part of my growth journey.

I have a STRONG tribe of peers who are also trying to achieve amazing things with their lives so when I am having a bad day I have other people reminding me to persevere and keep my eyes on the ball. I have also invested into coaches because I know that many times our greatest limits exist within our mind sets and beliefs so coaches have been very helpful in helping me identify and overcome limiting beliefs to prosper and become all that I want to be.

5. How can young people connect with you and learn more about goals

We run a community of young professionals, entrepreneurs and students called the GoalGetter tribe where we provide each other with accountability, inspiration and capacity building towards our individual goals. We meet every quarter and our tribe meet-ups are a space for reflective progress review and planning as well as a place where we share ideas on how we can do better and we always end the sessions with a kick under the chair presentations from our dynamic guest speakers. Between meet-ups, members stay in touch, receive inspirational messages on our Facebook as well as a newsletter with inspiring stories, celebrating member milestones and tips and tools too. You can find us on Facebook and like the page and inbox us for membership details.
